Opening Day of Baseball

Today was the Opening Day Ceremonies for the kid's baseball league.
They teams gathered in the parking lot and then had a parade to the Minor field. Each team was announced by their Coach/Manager, all the players said the Little League Pledge and then it was "Play Ball."

Well, not for Trevor's team. The first game for the Minor B division was canceled due to the conditions of the field. The field was still very soggy and muddy from the rains yesterday and was not ready for the first game of the day in that division. So Trevor's team, the Angels, did not get to play against the Tigers. The will play their first game on Monday. Hayley's team did get to play, but just started late so the coaches and parents could get the puddles on the base path taken care of. It was a bit nice that Trevor's game was canceled since both kids were to play at the same time which meant Sean would not have been able to watch Hayley's 1st T-Ball game ever.

Hayley being announced by her coach. Normally the kids run from the outfield to the pitcher's mound and are announced from there, but will the incredibly soggy/muddy infield they just stayed where they were and tipped their hats.

Hayley's first at bat. She was so cute to watch. I wish I would have captured the picture with her tongue sticking out. Such determination by the little girl.

She made it to First Base and was so proud of herself. What she didn't realize, and we didn't tell her, was that if this was any league other than T-ball she would have been out. Hayley hit the ball directly to the First Baseman who picked up the ball and tagged the base before she even got there. Being T-ball they let the kids stay on the base for the first part of the season as they are just learning.

Getting ready to run when the next batter hits the ball.

On third waiting to come Home.

She loved the fact that she made it all the way Home. Just after I took this picture she jumped onto Home Plate. It was very cute.

It might appear to the untrained eye that Little Miss Hayley is playing baseball and may have just thrown the ball. but in reality you would be wrong. She just picked a huge batch of grass, threw it into the air and caught it in her glove.

During her 2nd at bat I was able to catch a picture with her tongue out. It is going to be a very exciting year watching Hayley and Trevor play baseball. I might even get some much needed exercise in walking back and forth from his field to her field. Thanks!

She is really playing baseball this time and getting ready for the bat to be hit. Maybe being in the infield makes the kids pay attention more since there is no grass or flowers to play with. Just my theory.

Trevor's 1st Sharks Game

Tonight we took Trevor to his very 1st San Jose Sharks game. We have been watching Hockey for a long time on TV, but Trevor just became really interested in it. We decided to take him to a game and invite Sean's Aunt Susan who just moved to the Bay Area from Washington State. She took Sean to one of his first hockey games so it was only appropriate for her to be there for Trevor's 1st game as well.

The goalies stretching before the game. I thought it was funny that they were so close to each other and pretty much doing the same thing at the same time.

Both teams out on the ice warming up before the start of the game. It was really neat seeing them all out there. Boy there are a lot of them.

Nabokov blocking some of his teammates practice shots.

This was a cool sight during the National Anthem. The San Jose Sharks in black and the Nashville Predators in White.

Opening face off of the game.
The Sharks scored 1 goal in the 1st period, 1 in the 2nd and 6 in the 3rd. It was totally amazing to see.

Face off after a goal.

The team talking after one of their goals. When the Sharks ended the 2nd period down 4-2 a fair amount of people left the arena. What they ended up missing was a great comeback. The Predators scored 1 more goal in the 3rd period, but that didn't matter since the Sharks scored 6 goals.

Pavelski scored and/or assisted on 3 of the Sharks 8 goals tonight. One goal he scored was even a backward spinning shot that amazed everyone. That should be one Hockey highlight reel some day.

Sharks ended up winning 8-5. YEAH SHARKS!

Funny story about tonight. We had seats 19 and 20 in row 4 and then seats 18 and 19 in row 5, so in the first period Trevor sat next to Sean in the 4th row. Well, there happened to be a lady next to Trevor that was so wasted before the game even started that she kept falling asleep while eating her hamburger. It was the funniest thing to watch. We all kept laughing because as soon as music played she would be awake and bobbing her head to the music and then fall back asleep when it finished. She got up during the intermission between the 1st and 2nd period only to return with a cup of coffee and what I think was a small cup of espresso. Well once she sat down she started falling asleep again, but this time with her coffee in her hand. She must have spilled it on herself and the guy she was with about 5 times before she finally set it down. She continued to fall asleep and wake up into the 3rd period and then all of a sudden she was AWAKE and cheering like crazy, but for both teams. She kept saying it looked like the guys were having trouble with that little ball, that's right ball not puck. She was so gone. We were laughing, of course, but kept saying to each other that we thought it was better when she was falling asleep and not screaming so much. I think she knew that and about half way into the 3rd period she was out again. We thought of video taping her, but it would have been awkward sitting right next to her. It was hilarious and just made for a funnier night to Trevor's 1st Hockey Game.
