1st Day at New School

Today Trevor and Hayley started school.
Trevor is staring the 3rd Grade and Hayley is starting Kindergarten. They are now attending a year round school. They will go to school the same number of days as the traditional school students, but have a shorter summer and 5 additional weeks off during the school year. They get 3 weeks off at the end of September/beginning of October, 3 weeks at Christmas time (instead of 2 like the other schools), and 2 weeks for Spring Break (instead of 1 like the other schools). We are very excited for them and have already noticed some wonderful differences in the way this school runs verses Trevor school last year.

Here is Hayley in line waiting for her class to start. She is in room 2 with an amazing teacher according to the other parents who have older kids as well as Kindergartners.

This is Hayley's desk. When told to look around and find the student's desk Hayley and I had trouble since there was no desk that said Hayley. There was, however, a desk that said Alexis Johnson. The teacher used her middle name and last name instead of her first. The teacher was so embarrassed and said she will fix that today after school. Hayley thought it was funny and I found it to be a cute story to share.

The first project of the school year was to decorate Gingerbread cookies. The kids did this while the parents were asking questions of the teacher and putting the school supplies in the student's desk. I think they will hear a story today or tomorrow about Gingerbread Men and then will get to eat their cookies. What a fun way to start the year for the kids.
