Hayley takes Gymnastics

Disclaimer #1: Our camera sometimes is grainy when you do not use the flash in low light settings. Since using the flash was not allowed this is the best we were able to get for now on some pictures.

We signed Hayley up for Tumble Tots, which is for 2 and 3 year olds. This class is a non-parent participation class, but we could have put here in one that allowed us to be with her. She was just watching the coach for the first few minutes and then began to copy what he was doing. She seemed to be enjoying herself. That is until the little girl sitting next to her started to cry VERY LOUDLY. This scared Hayley and she too began to cry. After a few moments with Mom and Dad she braved the gymnastics class again.

After one more melt down, she did a somersault down the padded ramp and then rolled to the next mat. She was very apprehensive during this part. We are not sure she was comfortable with the male coach. He was not as compassionate as the lady was. the lady couch made Hayley a promise. She said that if Hayley did 3 times around the obstacle course she would take Hayley to the trampoline. Hayley did not want to do what the little kids were doing, she wanted to do the balance beam like the older girls there tonight were doing.

Reluctantly Hayley decided she should do the obstacle course a few more times. The kids were supposed to bounce to the top the taller red mat and then jump down to the smaller red mat and then to the blue mat.

Each time she got to the end she would look like she was going to cry. The lady coach would walk over to her and say, "let do it one more time sweetie and then we can go jump." The lady coach really encouraged Hayley a lot tonight. Who would have thought our little climber, our little daredevil, our little fearless girl would have been so uncomfortable jumping and climbing on the mats.

Here she is in the middle of the obstacle course not knowing what to do next. It was like she was being very shy and not asserting herself like she usually does.

She watched a little kid do the white part of the course and then the next time she knew what to do. She really liked this part once she figured out how to do it.

The coach kept her promise. The kids got to go on the trampoline. Little did they know that they were going to go on it no matter what. It helped Hayley get through the obstacle course and for that we are thankful. She loves to jump, but fell down right away. She is not used to the bounciness, I guess.

There she goes. Bouncing down the trampoline with straight legs having a great time.

After the straight legged jumping, the kids were supposed to jump with their legs out to the side. Most of the kids were not that good at this type of jumping, but Hayley was not crying and she was loving it.

Now, this is the picture that got me in trouble. I changed settings on the camera to see if we could get better shots and the flash went off when I took the pictures. The nice young lady in the white tank top had to come over and speak to me. Whoops!

The picture turned out good though. Here Hayley is jumping and bending her knees at the same time. Again a difficult task for the kids, but fun to watch.

At the end of the mat was a foam pit. When the kids got tot he end the lady coach would hold their hand and help them jump into the pit. After the night was over Hayley said this was her favorite part. After the trampoline came the balance beam. And another melt down for Hayley. She managed to do the balance beam all the while crying. She looked so sad, but kept on letting the coach help her. We are so proud of her for what she accomplished tonight. We are not sure why she was so sensitive, but we know she has not been sleeping good lately. We will try again next week, if she wants to go.
