Hayley and Trevor are in week 2 of their swim lessons and are having so much fun. This week Trevor decided that he needed goggles so that when he went underwater he didn't have to worry about closing his eyes.

Hayley is always the first one to class her class since it is the closet one to the shower. Trevor has to go around Hayley's class to get to his. He tries to be first in line, but today he was last. The kids are not allowed in the water until the class starts so they just sit on the edge of the pool and wait for their coaches.
Hayley loves to kick her legs. Her coach, Adam, allows her to do a bit more than the other kids. She is not afraid of the water and wants to do more. She tells Adam she wants to be in the big kid class. He just smiles and gets her back to what they are doing. He noticed that I was taking pictures and told Hayley to wave. He is really good with the kids.
Hayley is learning to go under water. Adam will put the ring down on the bottom of the pool and she has to get it. If she is not able to do so after 3 tries, he will hold it up higher so she can get it. Hayley is the only one in her class right not that is doing this. Adam has tried with one other kid, but the girl is too scared to go under like that. Yeah Hayley!

Here is Trevor trying to do the Backstroke. This one gives him the most trouble because he kicks off the wall too hard and ends up under water. Then he concentrates to much on his arm movements and starts to sink again. Miles has been holding Trevor's back so he can get more comfortable with the arm movements and kicking. He is getting better, but this one is fun to watch.

The kids are also learning to tread water. They swim out to the coach and then try and tread water for a certain amount of time. Trevor is one of the shorter kids in the his class so he does not swim out as far. He is having trouble treading water as he says, "his arms and legs don't keep his head above water." We took him to Aunt Karen's pool on the 4th of July to give him more time to practice, but no luck. He understands what needs to be done, but his arms and legs don't want to work together to keep him above water and he gets very frustrated and bored with it. He would rather do the backstroke or breaststroke.

Trevor is the best at the Freestyle stroke. He kicks his legs really hard and does a great job with his arms. He is also getting better with the side breathes.
Trevor is getting much better with his kicking. He was kicking like he was riding a bicycle, but has been working really hard to keep his legs locked and together. His coach, Miles, is constantly telling him how well he is doing and how he is improving. He is gaining much more confidence in his ability to learn and swim as each class passes. We noticed this and decided to sign him up for another 3 week session.
